Church Revitilization Workshop
Saturday, June 6th 9am - 3pm
On Saturday May 6th, Dr. Pat Polis will lead a workshop addressing the basics of church revitalization. His success in the military and business world, along with his training as a church consultant, resulted in him personally and successfully revitalizing multiple churches, as well as assisting other churches in their revitalization efforts.
A workbook will be provided to participants as a working document giving practical tools applicable to the average church setting. Workshop topics will include:
- Principles of revitalization
- What a healthy church looks like
- What unhealthy churches look like
- Why some churches revitalize and some don’t
- Growth barriers
- Measuring effectiveness
- The role of demographics and related topics
Two-thirds of North American churches are plateaued, declining and many are on the precipice of closing, following thousands that have already closed. Here are some common, contributory practices: established comfort zones that are self-serving instead of others serving; lack of knowledge [a strategy/a plan] on how to get out of the rut they are in; a lack of awareness about the community in which they are located; shifting the blame to someone or somewhere other than the church itself, its leaders and its members; reluctance in asking for help; lack of spiritual outreach; unhealthy attitudes: decline leads to despair which leads to defeat.
In his book Comeback Churches, Ed Stetzer states that many churches have forgotten or lost sight of their true mission and purpose to simply make more and better followers of Jesus Christ. Is a church comeback an easy road? No! But is it a road worth taking? Yes!
